COMMUNITY SCHOOL MODEL
The Community School Model focuses on the students’ overall well-being by integrating education, social services, health and community engagement. STEM School Evanston is able to take this holistic approach to education by partnering with community programs to provide wrap around services for students and families. As importantly, the process of creating community schools can transform the relationships between families, community members, and their schools.

Closer to Home
The 5th Ward has gone more than 50 years without a school and STEM School Evanston is bringing education back to our community. Instead of being separated and bussed out to neighboring wards, children will have the opportunity to attend a school in safe walking distance from home with their siblings and friends.

Parent Involvement
A school in closer proximity to home removes the transportation barriers parents face, restoring a lost intimacy and belonging with the school, when attending school functions and meetings. Increased parent involvement has a positive impact on the students and long-term benefits on the community as a whole.

STEM Curriculum
A robust science, technology, engineering and mathematics curriculum will assist in ensuring that the children in the community are prepared for the academic challenges they will face in their middle and high school years through a hands-on approach to learning.

Culturally Intelligent Staff
It is STEM School Evanston’s goal to ensure that the staff obtains unconscious bias training to better support the 5th Ward’s diverse population.
