There are several reasons we are pursuing opening a STEM focused Community School located in Evanston’s Central Core.
– Address the busing and educational inequity that disproportionately impacts Black and Brown kids in Evanston 1
– Make it easier for parents in the 5th Ward to participate in their student(s) education experience
– Help raise the self-esteem of kids and help with developing relationships
– Build parent networks and improve after-school programing access
– Help reduce the achievement gap for marginalized students
– Provide a public school option that is within safe walking distance
– Return a primary keystone of the 5 th Ward’s community integrity 2
– Prepare kids for STEM careers (one of our richest sources of employment and economic growth)
– Close the U.S. achievement gap vs. other developed nations in math and science
– STEM provides a strong education base that fosters a lifelong love of learning
